David Hornsby Chartered Surveyors and historic building surveyors regularly carry out listed building surveys and historic building surveys throughout the county of Kent. We specialise in Country House surveys, historic farm surveys, and period property surveys.

Many properties are listed buildings including Grade1, Grade 2* & Grade2. Surveys are undertaken personally by David Hornsby B.Sc., FRICS with over 35 years of professional expertise in the surveying and valuation of residential properties throughout the UK.

The vast majority of historic building surveys & listed building surveys are undertaken for clients looking towards the purchase and we provide a bespoke service which includes tracing the historical development of the property by carrying out analysis of the fabric as well as reporting on condition and likely repairing requirements over a 5 year period after purchase. Purchasing a property can be lonely and daunting task particularly for clients purchasing a historic or listed building for the first time, but with a pre purchase survey was undertaken by David Hornsby Chartered Surveyors & historic Building Surveyors, clients have a clear understanding of what is involved with each property.

Our recommendations are clearly set out and clients are assisted throughout the process of purchase and beyond with practical advice given regarding the nature of repairs to be undertaken. Over the past few years surveys of historic & period houses in Kent have involved timber frame construction of various forms including, Wealden Hall houses, Kent pegged hanging tiles together with flint, stone, and brick construction.

Many clients are interested in tracing the history of their property and by reference to the historical development of the physical fabric contained in the pre purchase survey report clients are better able to pursue at a later date further historical research through county record and archives office

In addition to undertaking historic building surveys and listed building surveys for prospective purchasers, we are able to provide specialist reports relating to the significance and settings of historic buildings to support applications for listed building consent.

Our expertise in country house surveys and historic farm surveys have proved to be valuable to clients seeking consent for alterations.

A historic building survey or listed building survey by David Hornsby Chartered Surveyors & historic building Consultants is more than just a building survey on a historic or listed property it brings to life the heritage values of the property whilst providing an appreciation and guidance relating to the works necessary to repair, maintain or enhance those heritage values.
